There were many different styles of bathrooms that I looked through on Pinterest before deciding this look was the one we wanted. I though a bit of modern and classic, then a touch of creative. Bright white was also the goal. My wife and I love natural light throughout the house so that was something we really needed to improve from the start.
When we purchased the house, the bathroom looked just like this in the photos below. Whoever lived here before us considered renovating, but never did it. Then my wife and I bought the home and that all changed.
There were many challenges with this bathroom. Windows being one of them. The first thing I did was swap out the windows. The little windows installed prior just didn’t give that room size any justice. Also, this current master bathroom wasn’t exactly a master bathroom before it became one. It was a laundry room/bathroom. There was a dryer vent in the back corner and 220 outlet plug.
Second thing was lighting. I needed to make sure this bathroom had sufficient lights. Whether its daytime or night, lighting was important. I gave this bathroom three can lights. Then a few other lights by the his and her vanity. After the lights were ran, we started on the insulation and drywall.
Drywall
My wife slapping some drywall mud on the wall! It was her first time she ever did it.
We did a lot of research on the type of tile we wanted. We loved the tile with the design on them and figured it would be a good look for the master bathroom. We purchased this tile from Home Depot online. At first, my wife didn’t like it when we laid it down (I loved it), but then ended up loving it.
We got the vanity installed. This was a 4 piece vanity I got from the RTA Store that you put together. For the floor we used white grout, which we knew it would get darker overtime because it’ll get a bit dirty. (White tiled floor is hard to keep clean, obviously) However, we still loved the look. And cleaning it every few months isn’t tough.
The Shower
You cannot go wrong with subway tile and I love that it is inexpensive and you can use it for many different rooms and be pretty creative with it. We purchased this bright white subway tile from Home Depot. Honestly all the subway tile for the bathroom ended up around $100 or so. Labor is what makes tile jobs like this inexpensive. Luckily for me, I’ve done some tile work with my dad when I was a teenager in our home growing up and my dad came for a day to help us out. So that was great! We ended up grouting it all black, and also tiled the floor and wall insert little hexagon sheets of tile.
THE REVEAL
So after the shower doors where installed and everything was up and working it took us a few months to purchase the tub and install that as well, but by the end of it, we were happy and pretty excited on how it turned out!
The shower faucet and handle Brand is Delta, we loved the look and wanted it all black, and we definitely wanted the extra spray handle that goes with it.
So what’s different or special about this bathtub is how the faucet works. Typically you would do a freestanding faucet for a freestanding tub, but in this case I wanted to find a creative and inexpensive way to build something functional. So there was one or two photos I found on Pinterest that looked similar to this set up. I’m most pleased with that. We now set towels and soaps on the ledge. Pretty functional i’d say!
We are pretty thrilled and love every bit of this bathroom! Way better than I expected.
